According to the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA), around 5 million people in Germany are exposed to harmful noise at their workplace, which in many cases leads to secondary diseases. But would we also think of the profession of a teacher with such a statement? The maximum values recommended for mental activity according to DIN are 35 to 45 dB(A); in fact, noise levels of up to 80 dB were measured in school classes. However, these physical measured values do not yet provide any information as to whether the sound is actually perceived as noise. Ultimately, only those affected can say how much they feel disturbed by the background noise in the classroom, because noise is always a subjective phenomenon. This book deals with the question of how intensively students and teachers perceive the noise level in the school. The differentiated explanation, observation and measurement of the phenomenon "noise in (secondary school) lessons" with all its characteristics and facets is the focus of the consideration. In addition, some recommendations for action for pedagogical practice are to be developed on the basis of the study results. The results of this pilot study do not claim to be complete, but could surprise some readers.
