Coal has been mined and extracted worldwide for some time. This raw material, which has been described as the engine of industrialization, is mainly used for power generation and steel production and gives countries with sufficient reserves an important position in the world economy by being able to produce their own energy. Germany is one of the countries with the highest coal reserves in the world. RAG Deutsche Steinkohle is part of the RAG Aktiengesellschaft group of companies and is responsible for the promotion of German hard coal on behalf of the public sector. The company makes an important contribution to national raw material and energy supply security. Nevertheless, the domestic "black gold production" is shut down for economic and environmental reasons. An important factor is the adverse change in the landscape. These changes in the landscape are visible through ground movements on the surface of the day. The infrastructure and especially the sewage system are affected by this. This thesis examines the damage that hard coal mining can cause to the existing sewage system, which is laid in free gradients. In a first step, the ground movements and the resulting effects of the mining activity on the sewage system laid in the ground near the surface are recorded. The further investigation examines the influence of the recorded impacts on the sewage system. The sewer damage determined from the theoretical basis is compared and analyzed with the mining-related damage mentioned in the literature and with the sewer damage that occurred in a subsidence area. The study is intended to provide an overview of the damage that can be caused by hard coal mining.

Author

Jorge Ivan Duque Vengoechea was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1972 and has lived in Germany since 1990. He studied civil engineering at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences and industrial engineering at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences. A special focus of his work is the interior renovation of sewers.
